The Battle of Dorylaeum 1st of July 1097 CE. The battle took place between the crusaders and the Seljuk Turks who were seeking revenge for the loss of the city of Nicaea. On the morning of the 1st of July 1097 they attacked the army of Bohemond de Taranto, which had become separated from the other Crusaders during their march towards Jerusalem. Just as the Turks were on the verge of defeating Bohemond's army, the armies of Godfrey de Bouillon and others joined the battle. Although the reinforcements took the Turks by surprise they were still unable to break the Turkish resistance until a force led by Bishop Adhemar of Le Puy arrived in the afternoon. The Turkish camp was attacked from the rear. The Turks, seeing their camp go up in flames, promptly fled. Source describing the attack by Adhemar of Le Puy |
