The Second Attempt

In 1270 Louis IX once again went on Crusade, this time he planned to conquer the city of Tunis in North Africa. They landed and quickly conquered a Muslim fortress on the edge of ancient Carthage.

Shortly afterwards disease spread and many Crusaders fell ill. Louis IX himself died on the 25th of August 1270. After his death the remaining Crusaders returned home and the Eighth Crusade ended before it had really begun.
