Simon Earl of Huntendon, went to the Holy Land in the first Crusade. He died at the Abbey of La Charite. His descendants, through Agnes de St. Litz, are the present Earl of Denbigh and the family of Fielding.


According to the ‘Vita Waldevi,’ Simon went on the crusade in 1095 CE. However, some websites claim that he was taken prisoner in 1098 CE, by Louis, son of the French King. They refer to a footnote on page 190, in the 1882 book, The Reign of William Rufus. It is absolutely not clear that this was indeed Simon de Senlis who was taken prisoner
