Philip de Braose Philip de Braose, on going to Jerusalem, confirmed the grants made by William his father to the Abbey of St. Florence at Salmure: this was one among many acts of piety performed by him. By his wife Berta he had two sons, from whom are descended the families of the name Braose; also those bearing the name of Knil, by Sir John de Braose, who adopted that surname; Sir John Walsham, Bart., by Barbara, an heiress; and the family of the name Cantilupe descended from Wm. de Braose. Philip joined the First Crusade to the Holy Land, returning in 1103. |
