Prince Edward, heir to the English throne, arrived at Tunis with his forces only to find that Louis IX had died and that the Eighth Crusade had ended. Prince Edward decided to continued on to Acre, the last Crusader outpost.

There he began the Ninth and Final Crusade. He succeeded in capturing Nazareth and agreed to a treaty with the Sultan of Egypt for Christians and pilgrims. In 1272 CE Prince Edward returned home to England and was crowned King Edward I on the 19th of August 1274.
